The Big Apple's 12,800 decaying public pay phones could be replaced with large touchscreens that are good for making more than just voice calls. In general, touchscreens are either resistive or capacitative. The former is great for styli and the latter is great for fingers. Sharp's Aquos Board works with styli and fingers simultaneously. Oh, and it's massive.

Seeing someone drawing on an HDTV — on the actual screen with an actual electronic pen — stopped a lot of IFA show-goers by German LCD maker Hannspree's booth (I cropped out the surrounding rubber-neckers). We were all gawking at woman's face being sketched on the Lounge TV 70, a 70-inch 1920-by-1080-pixel HDTV.

The problem with most touchscreen smartphones is that you need two hands to run them. This weird looking nose stylus solves that problem, by letting you peck away using your nose when your other hand is...uh...preoccupied....

The world's largest touchscreen resides at the University of Groningen in the the Netherlands and isn't used to catch world criminals, but to teach math and computer science.
