Wind energy is some of the cleanest energy there is. It's relatively cheap to produce and easy to install, and produces power fairly reliably. So, but what happens if we transition to nothing but wind power? As dumb as it sounds, will we run out of wind? The answer seems to be "probably not," but there will be consequences.

I'll bet you didn't know that aluminum (the same stuff that keeps your soda in the shape of a can) has more than twice the energy density of gasoline. Combine powdered aluminum with water at high temperatures, and you'll get heat, hydrogen and aluminum oxide. In other words, you get enough clean car fuel to take you 1,500 miles per tank.

Every year the Shell Eco-marathon presents a global competition for student teams to create novel vehicles that "travel the furthest on the least amount of energy." One entry from Aston University has taken the renewable vehicle concept to another level of wacky, forward-looking green design.

A few years ago, a 10 million watt wind turbine was built in Norway. Now, heading in the complete opposite direction, Scotland installed a 100-food 1-megawatt turbine under water, off the coast of Orkney.
