At E3, I waited nearly two hours to play Nintendo's Wii U. It was worth every leg cramp. Most fans thought they'd be playing the console by at least summer, but it looks like it won't come out until the 2012 holiday season.

Whenever new game hardware is released, there's always the possibility that backward compatibility will get cut and all those old games will be rendered useless (unless you keep the old consoles). The still-fresh Wii U can play old Wii games, but not GameCube ones, but there might be hope for gamers looking for nostalgic replays!

Nintendo's next-gen console, the Wii U, has a big old screen on its controller. It's already known that it'll be used for playing games, but it could also be used to play video, such as streaming movies from Netflix.

More proof that Nintendo still does not "get it" — Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has confirmed everybody's worst fear: the Wii U will once again be a gimped box. It will not be able to play DVD or Blu-ray discs. What a huge shame.
