Rumor has it that Hulu could begin quietly testing out its fee-supported service, called Hulu Plus, as early as next week. (If all the various content partners can agree to a mutually beneficial plan, that is.) For a service that we all know and love as essentially free, ad-supported television, what's in it for us to start ponying up cash?
 
As promised, OnLive is going live this month. Right now, in fact. You could try it out for yourself if you wanted to. Early adopters get to enjoy the service (read: not the games) for free for a full year, and everyone else has to pay for admission. That's a little irksome — why punish people who weren't in the beta? — but it gets worse.
 
The rumors you've been hearing about Hulu turn out to be true: the coveted online streaming video service will soon start charging for some of its content. The newer episodes will still be free, but Hulu will charge a monthly fee for the back catalog and some other special content. And, the service is reportedly on its way to the Xbox and iPad.
 
Hulu is awesome for users, but not so awesome for content producers, as it doesn't make all that much money. It certainly doesn't make enough money to pay for all those shows being made. The solution? A subscription service that...
