Japan robotics and machinery company NSK looked to Microsoft's multipurpose Kinect for the missing piece of its robot dog puzzle. Can you really replace a lovable, super-cute dog with a robot, though?
This skittish little quadruped dog robot is called SQ1, and it was seen recently prancing around at the International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems in San Francisco. Developed by a Korean company called SimLab, it seems to be pretty good at walking, but can lose its balance and fall over at times. SQ1 can't walk backwards, but that's no different from actual flesh and bone dogs.
