Incredible image shows tiny differences in atomic bonds

Within the last few years, we've been treated to images of single molecules along with images of orbiting electrons. Today, IBM research has released a new image of a molecule, with enough detail that you can spot differences in the bonds between the individual atoms. Whoa.

You'd have to be a pretty small ninja to wield one of these stars, since they're made of molecules. Or rather, each star is just one single molecule all tied in knots, and they're the most complex molecules (outside of DNA) that we've ever synthesized.

I don't know about you, but this picture has just blown my mind. What we're looking at here is an actual image which shows electrons orbiting around a molecule. Whoa.
