Hermit crab housing has just taken on an interesting new turn. Harry, the local resident at the rock pool in Legoland in the U.K. has crawled into a specially crafted shell made of the local building material — Legos. So, adorable hermit crabs enjoy plastic blocks as much as they love 3D-printed enclosures.
The Free Universal Construction Kit (which we are taking great pains not to abbreviate anywhere in this article and will henceforth refer to it as "the Kit"), is a set of about 80 adapter blocks that can be used to connect all of those childhood construction sets you used to play with (Legos, Tinkertoys, etc.) to one another. And it's about freakin' time, too.
The end of NASA's Space Shuttle program is something that space enthusiasts are still mourning. So, in the spirit of the original Space Shuttle, one fan decided to mount one last flight, via Legos.
Lego bricks are beloved all the world over — now they have made it into orbit as part of a joint NASA-Lego educational project. The model of the International Space Station (ISS) was created while in orbit as a way of engaging children as to what it is like living and working in zero gravity.
There are some new stack and lock bricks on the scene. Lego bricks are classic toys, but there's no denying these re-envisioned "Earth Blocks," made partially from recycled materials — coffee beans, cedar sawdust and cedar bark — are a fantastic idea.
Ryan McNaught built this 19-foot-tall model of Apollo 11's Saturn V rocket out of 120,000 LEGOs. McNaught's creation, which took him 250 hours to complete, will be showcased at Australia's Brickvention next weekend.
The Large Hadron Collider is like the supermodel of physics — larger than life and photographed a million times. Many people aren't exactly sure what its for and it's always upstaging the other science news. It's no surprise that a device with that much personality has become iconic enough to inspire a Lego homage.
It's a good thing Lego's promo pic for their new Friends set, which targets girls, shows a scene that includes power tools, a science set, a robot, and some math. Otherwise, we might be feeling some serious outrage at the insinuation that girls don't like regular old Legos, and instead need curvy minifigs and pastel colors to have fun.
The Great Summer Zoofari is in fill swing at the Bronx Zoo. Now through September 30, head out to the Wildlife Conservation Society's zoo and see incredible life-size animal sculptures made from Legos. There are penguins, flamingos, a giraffe…well you get the idea. Check out the gallery below to see the Lego Master Builders creations.
We love Lego creations for one reason: the colored blocks enable you to build anything you can imagine. You know what we love even more about Lego creations? Working machines made out of them, like this Super-8 film projector made almost entirely out of Lego Technic pieces.
