Perhaps he saw the Apple logo on the back and figured it was lunch, but this elephant in a Thai animal park took a liking to a Chinese tourist's iPhone, snatched it out of her hand and swallowed it down.

So your dog is a bit overweight. Maybe so overweight that your best friend can't get around without some assistance. Apparently, this is really common, so much so that someone has designed a stair elevator to carry your vertically challenged pet up and down the stairs for you.

Word, bird. We're totally diggin' those headphones. It's just a shame that they're epoxied directly to your skull, but, on the other hand, you'll never have to worry about them falling off ever again. Just think of it as a premium feature that we'll probably start seeing in headphones for humans.

Dean Swartz was photographing a black bear family in Minnesota when one particularly curious cub decided to check out his equipment up close. Swartz used the back-up camera slung over his shoulder to capture this image from a safe distance.

The U.S. Navy's Marine Mammal Program started back in the '60s, and the dolphins and sea lions in it help defend harbors, retrieve sunken equipment and, most dangerously, identify mines for deactivation. By 2017, the Navy wants robots to do all that, instead.

Earth is running out of animals. Or rather, Earth is suffering from an overabundance of some animals (namely humans and cows) and a serious lack of others. Brazil is taking some initiative by starting a program to clone animals from species at risk of going extinct, including black lion tamarins, maned wolves, and jaguars.

This cute little creature is very likely the only liliger in the universe. Her name is Kiara, and she was born last week at Novosibirsk Zoo in Russia. Kiara's dad is a lion, but her mom is a liger — a hybrid cross between a lion and a tiger that's bred for (among other things) its skills in magic.
