Here at DVICE, you might say we're a bunch of science and tech geeks. As might obviously follow, Wired is a publication we keep a pretty close eye on. Chris Anderson, who has helmed it for almost the past twelve years, has announced he will be stepping down to hang out with some robots.

Anderson, a physicist, also helms a company he co-founded in 2009 called 3D Robotics. It focuses on, as you may have surmised, robots. So he plans to take the company on in a full-time capacity.

"This is an opportunity for me to pursue an entrepreneurial dream," Anderson said in a statement. "I'm confident that Wired's mission to influence and chronicle the digital revolution is stronger than ever and will continue to expand and evolve."

Under his tenure, the magazine grew from a circulation of half a million to 825,000, won eight National Magazine Awards and was named magazine of the decade in 2010 by Adweek.

The search for a new EIC is underway.
