In the wake of Sandy, the affected area is seeing a different kind of corporate welfare. Companies that we jokingly refer to as uncaring monoliths are helping folks out in ways that go beyond good PR. It's a welcome sight to see everyone pulling together in trying times.
AT&T and T-Mobile have entered into a network sharing agreement. The FCC reports that network capacity in affected areas has been reduced by 25%. AT&T and T-Mobile's move to help their customers reach family and emergency services is laudable. Feel free to pressure Sprint and Verizon to enter into a similar agreement.
Comcast is contributing as well. The company's network of Xfinity WiFi hotspots has been opened up for public use in affected areas. Simply identify yourself as a non-subscriber and select the trial session. A map of the hotspots can be found here.
