Smartphone cradle lets you play augmented reality laser tag
The seemingly futuristic geek sport of laser tag went out of fashion almost as quickly as it rose to prominence in various malls and urban centers. But marrying augmented reality with your iPhone could give laser tag a second life.
AppTag is a first person shooter for the real world that uses your smartphone (iPhone or Android) to allow you to wage augmented reality laser tag wars with opponents. The free AppTag app is used in conjunction with a cool laser blaster smartphone gun cradle that uses a focused infrared beam and sensor to allow you to interact with other players.
Sure, it's not exactly like the more physically satisfying paintball, and it's only a step removed from traditional laser tag, but being able to conduct special ops missions against friends with your existing smartphone might be too fun to resist. AppTag got its start on Kickstarter, and we enjoyed a similar offering from Hasbro not too long ago.
The AppTag Laser Blaster cradle is available for $59.99, and you can see the AppTag system in action in the video below.
