New Orleans, LA — There are Bluetooth stereo earbuds, such as a favorite of mine, the Plantronics BackBeat Go. Then, there are noise canceling headphones, which I'm not a big fan of — earbuds that fit securely cancel ambient noise and have no need for a battery to run. But, since Bluetooth stereo earbuds require batteries to begin with, why not combine the wireless connectivity and noise canceling?

That's exactly what these Phiaton 210 BTNCs ($160 in mid-June) do: both stereo Bluetooth and active (battery powered) noise canceling. Their rechargeable battery will run for six hours of talk or music-listening and standby for 250 hours, and comes with four different-sized silicon ear tips and one memory foam tip.

Best of all, you're not screwed if the 210's battery dies. They come with a 2.5mm to 3.5mm cable you can physically connect to a music player or smartphone, even one that doesn't include Bluetooth. You will have to schlep this extra cable along with you, though — just stow it with the AC power charger.
