In Japan, it's not uncommon for even middle-aged men to plaster their walls with photos of teenage pop idols. Now those legions of questionably obsessed fans can have their unrequited love reciprocated, in a way, virtually.
Researchers at Keio University created the Interactive Kissing Poster as an experimental way to give a viewer the sense that he or she is actually kissing the person shown on the screen. A sensor detects how near or far away your head is from the poster and prompts the video screen to display a kissing image as you get closer, and a blushing image as you move away.
The developers hope to include other sensory options such as smell, taste and audio in a future version. You can see the Interactive Kissing Poster in action in the video below.
