Japan's Evangelion smartphone has slickest Android interface ever

Most Android users are either on Froyo, Gingerbread or have upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich. This Japanese smartphone made by Sharp looks nothing like the Android you're accustomed to. Hands-down, this Neon Genesis Evangelion phone has the coolest custom skin for any smartphone we've ever seen.

Sharp's SH-06D smartphone is a collab effort between Japan's NTT DoCoMo and Evangelion for an upcoming movie. The SH-06D's got a nice large 4.5-inch (1280x720) screen, 1.2GHz dual-core processor and runs Android 2.3 skinned to look like it's a console from the cockpit of some mech.

Before iPhones and Androids, Japan had the most advanced cellphones ever created. From having TV tuners, cameras with monster megapixels to large screens, Japan's "keitai" (cellphone) were every sci-fi geek's dreams. The SH-06D is proof Japan still knows a thing or two about pooping out cool gadgets.

Using it might be not be as functional and easy on the eyes as iOS or a stock build of Android is, but if you can train yourself to read those crazy Tokyoflash watches, a few days with the SH-06D be a cakewalk.

This smartphone looks to be a Japan-exclusive. What a bummer.
