Official 2100-brick R2-D2 Lego set is the droid we're looking for

It's happening. It's finally going to happen. Lego has finally caved in to demands for an official R2-D2 brick set. Come this May, you can buy the cutest astromech in the galaxy in brick form.

Okay, okay, as LegoWikia points out, this isn't really the first official R2-D2 Lego set — he's been available as a Technic and Mindstorms set before — but really, those don't count.

To really do the Ultimate Collector's Series 10225 R2-D2 Lego set justice, the little astromech needs to be more than just a pretty play-thing to look at.

Artoo's two main designers Kurt Kristensen and Mike Fuller really went to town on this set. Measuring about a foot tall, the R2-D2 Lego set comes with retractable front leg, side vents that reveal his hacking key and disc blade cutter, rotating dome and openable flaps.

There's even a small mini-fig R2-D2 hidden inside.

The official Lego R2-D2 still can't compare to Peter "Ickelpete" Salter's 23.6-inch R2-D2 made from 6,000 Lego pieces, but come on, it's so adorable!

Look for the 2100 piece R2-D2 set to hit store shelves this May for about $250. What? Did you think it would be cheap?
