Forget about those people who want to ban portable electronics in cars. One major manufacturer has a different idea, with a dock that totally integrates your phone into the car's control systems.
Harman's Dock+Go system puts your phone up front an center in a steering wheel dock, then uses it to handle everything from the navigation to adjusting the seats and mirrors to you personal settings. You don't need to touch the phone at all, as it uses a Kinect style motion control interface. Harman says the system will even learn your habits, and can suggest pulling over for a rest if it thinks you're getting tired.
Before rejecting this as just some whacky concept that will never get made, you should know that Harman is one of the biggest car electronics manufacturers in the world, supplying OEM systems for Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Range Rover, Lexus and many others. This seems like an obvious extension of similar systems they already make for those companies. I just wonder how the safety nannies will see it.
