PSA: Electronic cards are illegal to throw away in California

Did you get one of those annoying musical greeting cards for Valentine's Day? Well if you live in California, you're probably breaking the law if you chuck it in the trash after all the Valentine's chocolates have all been eaten.

Hidden inside the card is a circuit board, battery and speaker, which means that in some states it's categorized as e-waste with all kinds of special disposal laws.

While I doubt that the green police will come and slap the cuffs on if you do toss away a musical card, this does make you think twice about buying something with electronic components where the only goal is to make you chuckle for about 30 seconds.
