We've been anxiously awaiting the re-release of Star Trek: The Next Generation in high definition on Blu-Ray, and this first sample clip shows just how spectacular of a job CBS is doing with it. Let's put it this way: Captain Picard almost looks young.
Remember, instead of just doing some kind of lame upconvert type thing, CBS is going back to the original film and doing a native HD transfer, and then recompositioning all of the visual effects from scratch. It's taking them forever, and it's going to be hugely expensive, but as you can see from the super high-definition glint coming off Captain Picard's head in the sample clip below, it's also going to be totally worth it.
The first disc, a sampler consisting of "Encounter at Farpoint" (Season 1), "The Inner Light" (Season 5) and "Sins of the Father" (Season 3), will be available for $22 on January 31st. The rest of Season 1 should show up later this year.
