Apple will host an education event in New York next week

This week's tech news is all centered around the CES show in Las Vegas, but next week Apple looks to take back some of the thunder with an education event in New York CIty, followed a week later by the Macworld / iWorld conference.

Next Thursday's event will be held at New York's iconic Guggenheim Museum, and is expected to focus on a new Apple initiative to put textbooks into electronic form. As someone who lugged heavy books around all through my school years that sounds like a great idea, although I think you would need some special kid proof iPads if you want then to last. It also makes it a bit of a stretch to use the old "dog ate my homework" excuse if everything's in digital form.
