Sony Ericsson's next smartphone is going to be a monster

Who dares challenge Samsung's best and biggest Galaxy Nexus smartphone? Sony Ericsson seems up to the task. A new leak points to Sony Ericsson building a smartphone with a huge 720p resolution display with a more-than-necessary megapixel-packed rear camera.

The Xperia Blog discovered a Sony Ericsson phone for AT&T called the LT28at (tentative name) with a 4.55-inch "Reality Display" (Sony's fancy name for its own Retina Display" with a 1280x720 resolution, a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, front camera for 720p HD video, super fast 4G LTE, and 802.11 n Wi-Fi with support for 5GHz.

That last bit is a real-game changer because if it can tap into the 5GHz frequency, it'll have less interference from all the other Wi-Fi devices that run on 2.4GHz.

A smartphone with 5GHz Wi-F ultimately translates to faster and smoother downloads, uploads and a happier Web browsing experience.

The LT28at's display is only a hair smaller the Galaxy Nexus' 4.65-inch one, but being they're both huge 720p displays, the difference should be negligible.

Since the Xperia Arc, Sony Ericsson's regained my confidence in its ability to deliver compelling products. Hopefully the trend continues into next year.
