The Nest thermostat updates your climate control for the 21st century

In the age of touchscreen smartphones, it's strange that people still turn dials to control their heat and air conditioning. The Nest thermostat aims to change that.

The Nest is a state-of-the-art thermostat that allows you to control your home's temperature via your smartphone, using an app to tell it what temperature to be and when. You can turn up the heat from bed — finally!

In addition to that convenience, it can smartly pays attention to how you control it, allowing it to self-program based on how you usually set things. It also uses motion sensors to tell when you aren't home, lowering the heat when you're gone to lower your bills.

It'll cost about $250 when it's released, which should pay for itself relatively quickly once it makes your home more energy-efficient.
