Skype's founder may be planning a Netflix competitor

For all the complaining people have been doing about Netflix lately, they don't really have any ships to jump to. After all, there are no competitors that offer a comparable streaming catalog. But Skype's founders are looking to change that.

Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis, the entrepreneurs who have founded KaZaA, Skype, Joost and Rdio, are looking to take Netflix on in the streaming game. They appear to be behind Vdio.com, which has not yet launched and appears to be headed to the UK before the US. There's still very little info on the service, but their holding page has pictures from such shows and movies as Mad Men and The Dark Knight, which is pretty promising.

When will it launch, and what will the specifics be? Time will tell.
