NYC subway platforms getting cell service

Like airplanes, the NYC subway has long been a place where you got some respite from hearing other people talk on the phone. But that won't be the case for long, as a few stations will soon get cell service as a test before more widespread deployment.

A company called Transit Wireless will be setting up service for T-Mobile and AT&T customers in four stations around Chelsea, along 14th St and at 23rd St. Once activated on September 27th, people waiting on platforms will be able to make calls and check their email as if they were on the surface.

There are still no plans for bringing service onto the trains themselves, so at least you won't have to deal with that. But it looks like all platforms will be cell-friendly soon enough.
