HP makes a 3D scanner you can actually afford

3D scanners, those fancy machines that can turn everyday objects into 3D images for easy manipulation on a computer, have long been expensive specialty items. But now HP has released one that's priced to sell.

The HP TopShot Laserjet Pro M275 takes six images of an object and uses them to create a single 3D image. You can print wirelessly, or from your iPhone using AirPrint. And the whole shebang costs $400, which is far cheaper than most 3D printers, which run into the tens of thousands of dollars.

Of course, what could you need this for? Not much that I can imagine. Well, maybe to make something like this. If you're curious, here's your entry point.
