Mercedes F1 designs a bionic hand for a kid who asked nicely

14-year-old Matthew James wrote to the head of Mercedes' F1 team asking them for $57,000 for a bionic hand. It was kind of a joke when he sent it off, but the hand they made him in response certainly isn't; it's the most advanced prosthetic hand in the world.
The design team worked with Touch Bionics to customize one of their i-LIMB Pulse hands. What resulted was a "bluetooth-enabled prosthesis that allows wearers to tie shoes, put on belts, and use a pen to write or draw." Not a bad result from a letter sent off in jest, eh?
