As Japan struggles to figure out exactly what went wrong with its robots in its recent time of need, South Korea has begun stepping up with ever more impressive technology, this time in the form of the ETRI robot.

The robot is named after Korea's Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, and was designed read text and respond to verbal commands. Equipped with image recognition, speech recognition, and speech synthesis, the robot can also express a limited set of faux emotions via its LED animated faceplate.
