The bar has been officially raised on totems to the legacy of old school gaming courtesy of a gaming mod that marries pimp aesthetics with Cylon-esque sinister metal gloss.
A group calling itself Urchin Associates operating out of Australian has slathered the iconic frame of the Atari 2600 gaming console in 24-carat gold plating, giving us perhaps the most expensive game console mod ever made. The mod was born as a result of a local project called "Gold Mine, All Mine," in which the group of modders attempt to test the limits of what can be immortalized in the world's most famous precious metal. Other items subjected to the group's gold treatment are a skateboard and a Stingray BMX bike.
No word as to whether any of this will ever be on sale, but in the meantime you can follow their "Midas touch" progress here.
