Buy yourself an 'ultrathin' multitouch table for only $18,000

Microsoft's Surface Table hasn't quite set the world on fire thanks to its hulking frame and hefty pricetag. If you were more upset with the frame than the price tag, Ideum is hoping you'll go after its MT-55 multitouch table instead.

Rather than sitting in a big box, the MT-55 is more like a flat-screen TV balanced on a podium. A neat trick, but an expensive one: buying one of these will set you back a whopping $18,000. The three-inch-wide screen features a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio, 178-degree viewing angle and support for a 64-bit copy of Windows 7 Professional. You know, how Windows 7 is known for being so great as a touchscreen OS! That viewing angle is pretty important — even someone peeking over the edge of the table should be able to see what's going on.

Maybe multitouch tables will become all the rage someday. But something tells me that until they make awesome software for them and bring the price down by a factor of 10 or so, no one will be buying them, no matter how thin they are.
