Augmented reality app paints Times Square with virtual graffiti

The history of modern cities has been indelibly co-written with the artistic flourishes of the city's street artists. Now one tech-enabled crew has taken that dynamic to the next level by subverting the very life blood of our concrete jungles, advertising.

The Augmented Reality Advertising Takeover application is a smart phone app that layers clever new advertisements over existing real world ads throughout New York's Times Square. Think They Live, except the messages are telling you to "disobey" rather than follow the embedded messages of your alien controlled corporate overlords. The subversive messages were created by street artists Ron English, John Fekner, PosterBoy, Doctor D and Ox. You can see the augmented anarchy in action in the video below.
