Most robots are built to look kind of cute and human-like, but not this creepy looking hexapod with its fancy adjustable all-terrain legs.
EduBot is a development of that Rhex robot we saw a few years ago, and is used by the University of Pennsylvania to explore new robotics concepts. Its latest upgrade is a set of fancy tunable legs that can adapt to provide a perfect gait over different types of underlying surfaces. By tweaking the position of a stiffening bar, EduBot's legs can be made stiffer or more flexible depending on the type of surface it's running over.
That's all pretty cool, but why did they have to make it look like the world's biggest cockroach?
