Kitchen robot lends a hand with superhuman accuracy

Creating humanoid helper robots is all well and good, but unless it can independently determine whether it's bringing you a beer versus a cup of tea, you essentially have an expensive motorized food tray. One company seems to have come up with the solution to this problem.

Germany's KUKA Robotics recently unveiled its updated LWR +4, a visually-enabled robot arm that can independently and accurately determine which objects it's picking up. Fitted with a high performance camera, the robot uses vector fields and inverse kinematics to ensure that it selects the right object every time. You can see the robot in action in the video below.
