Beer can surfboard won't help to dispel the surfer dude image
If Jeff Spicoli from Fast Times at Ridgement High is what pops into your head when you think "surfer," this surfboard made from 72 recycled beer cans isn't going to do much to get rid of that image.
Built by San Diego based artist Rich Morrison working with master surfboard maker Gary Seagraves, the Beer Can Surfboard buries the cans in polyurethane and epoxy, providing a lightweight yet stiff center core for the board.
The surfboard is the latest piece in what Morrison calls his Enviro Surf Art Series, and is a fine example of environmentally friendly upcycling. He also says he collected the cans from local bars, but I wonder how many Morrison and his buds added while coming up with this idea.
As Spicoli would say, "All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine."
