Earlier this afternoon, an asteroid came reeeeeal close to hitting Earth. How close? It was well within the orbits of our GPS satellites. Yeah, that close.
Luckily, scientists were able to track the rock and knew that it wouldn't be hitting us, which is nice. Nobody freaked out too much because the chances are good that the asteroid would have burned up in the atmosphere if it had been more on target. But still!
They were also able to image the asteroid as it buzzed us, which you can see above. Pretty cool! But seriously, next time we've gotta have Bruce Willis and his team of oil drillers at the ready to take these things out.
