Wooden shell turns any iPad into an old Predicta TV

Say what you want, but we still think old Philco Predicta TVs are drop-dead gorgeous. That's why we jump at any chance when designers hearken back to its handsome 1950s charm. The V-Luxe is another stab at bringing back the classic Predicta design for today's mobile computers: iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.

BKNYDesign's Paula Anne Patterson is the lovely gal behind the V-Luxe iPad shell. Each V-Luxe is hand constructed out of walnut, cherry or African mahogany, has a swivel-tilt frame and a compartment for a speaker. And we'll bet it'll look damned spiffy playing movies and photo slideshows. Patterson plans to produce the iPad V-Luxe and an iPhone/iPod Touch V-Luxe Junior.

Good design doesn't come at a cheap cost, though. Once all the necessary funds are collected through Kickstarter, Patterson plans to sell each V-Luxe for $500 and each iPhone and iPod Touch V-Luxe Junior for $200. You'd better make sure you love wood and love how a Predicta looks in your living room or on your desk, because spending the same amount of money it costs for an iPad on a shell for your tablet is a tough swallow.
