Go to any automobile show and what will you find? Sleek and sexy cars that would make any car junkie drool for days on end, right? The
one car four-cars-in-one automobile you won't find at any swanky show? Ernie Cline's Ecto88 — a DeLorean with a little Kitt, a little Jet Car and a little Ecto-1.
When you're Ernie, driving around in either a time machine DeLorean from Back to the Future, Knight Rider's Kitt, Ghost Busters's Ecto-1 or Buckaroo Banzai's Jet Car is unacceptable, so he took matters into his own hands. Using a 30-year-old DeLorean DMC-12, Ernie modded it to create the Ecto88 — a "time traveling, ghost-busting, dimension hopping ectomobile."
The Ecto88 isn't just an external mod either. The Flux Capacitor and winged doors open via remote control and a Kitt scanner can even be toggled on (Ernie says it's probably not street legal, but he doesn't give a flying farce because it's too damn awesome!). Inside is a flip-out touchscreen that is used to control navigation, lighting systems as well as load music and movies from the 1980s.
Topping it all off is a Ghost Busters bumper sticker on the back, chippy tunes blaring from the car's stereos and plans for Proton Packs and Ghost Traps to be stored in the trunk.
If there was ever a car made with geek love, the Ecto88 is it. Ernie's planning to drive across country this summer to promote his new book, so maybe you'll get a chance to catch it on the Ecto88 on the road or in the air?
