The great pyramids in Egypt are true wonders of the world, pieces of ancient history that are mindblowing in their size and scope. And wouldn't you know it, we just discovered 17 new ones.

Using satellite infrared imaging, Dr. Sarah Parcak of the University of Alabama has discovered 17 lost pyramids, more than 1,000 tombs and 3,000 settlements. And that's just the beginning, as Dr. Parcak thinks there are many more further below the surface of the ground.

This should kick off some pretty amazing excavations, and it'll be incredible to see these structures dug up from the sand, unseen by human eyes for centuries. Who needs you, Indiana Jones?
