Xbox Live getting free-to-play games next year?

How would you like to play games on Xbox Live for free? Well, according to IGN, one of their trusted sources says that free-to-play games will make their way to Microsoft's online gaming service sometime next year.

IGN says that certain games will be released for free "where users can then purchase additional content, such as weapons, experience points, in-game currency, and perks." Sounds a lot like Microsoft wants to nickel and dime unsuspecting gamers into oblivion. Do we really need another Smurf berry micro-transaction fiasco?
