Origin's new gaming laptops will crush most Alienware ones

Sick of hearing banter about new MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs? Good, because Origin has a 17.3-inch gaming laptop that'll run circles around those "pros" and probably fry your nether regions if you don't keep this thing in a cool room.

Meet Origin's EON17-S. Inside you'll find second-gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processors that can be overclocked up to 4.5GHz with Turbo Boost, a 2GB Nvidia GTX 485M GPU, high-definition 7.1 digital surround sound, 32GB of RAM, full size keyboard with number pad and a biometric reader all wrapped up under a glossy 1920x1080 resolution screen.

Sounds like a beast until you consider that the EON17-S has a battery life of "up to 100 minutes." That's under two hours in a package that weighs 8.6 pounds. You tell me if that's an acceptable trade-off.

Starting at $1,759 and shipping in mid-May, you'll have ample time to figure out what you plan to do with such a powerful computer. Finally play Crysis with all of its settings maxed out? Crank out that video of your cat doing a headstand in an instant? I honestly don't know what I'd do with a computer that fast. I'd probably just play a little Minesweeper on it and throw in the towel.
