What happens when Microsoft marries its Xbox 360 Kinect with its Windows Phone 7 smartphones? As this demo video shows, a whole new take on motion/touch-based multiplayer gaming that looks incredibly fun!

As you can glean from Microsoft's demo video, one player is tackling virtual balls on an HDTV connected to Kinect while a second and third player are flinging the balls at the Kinect player with their Windows Phone 7-powered smartphones. What you have in the video is a three-way channel for multiplayer gaming without the need for multiple HDTVs.

While the initial Kinect hype has pretty much died down to due to a lack of killer games built with motion support, connectivity with Windows Phone 7 smartphones looks really exciting. The gameplay shown may be simple, but man, does it look like fun! If Microsoft can pull this level of Kinect and WP7 integration off, we might give WP7 devices a serious reconsideration.
