If you have been searching for a centerpiece to crown your collection of vintage space equipment, now is your big chance, because a space-flown 1961 Vostok capsule is about to hit the auction block.
Vostok 3KA-2 was shot into space on March 25 1961, just 18 days before Yuri Gagarin became the first man in space flying in an identical capsule. While 3KA-2 didn't carry a human, it did fly with a mannequin and a dog named Zvyozdochka, both of whom were returned safely to Earth after one orbit in space.
Sotheby's New York will put 3KA-2 on the block on April 12, where it is expected to fetch somewhere between 2 and 10 million dollars. I guess some rich guy's kids are going to have one heck of a fort to play in.
