Apple rejects Sony's e-reader app from the App Store

Well, this isn't a good sign: Apple has rejected Sony's Reader app, which would allow users to download books from Sony's digital bookstore. This is similar to what Amazon's popular Kindle app does — could it be getting the boot soon?

It appears that Apple is tightening control over its app store, trying to direct users to its competing iBooks store, where Apple gets a bigger cut of the profits.

While restricting such apps might make more money for Apple, it's definitely a downside for consumers, who end up with less choice in where they buy their e-books. Will this backfire? We'll see how people react if they end up killing the Kindle app.
