Ultra rare NASA Apollo era artifacts go up for grabs

If you're a space geek, and as a DVICE reader that's not exactly a stretch, an upcoming auction provides a rare opportunity to get some truly incredible stuff from NASA's moon missions that should turn your space geek buddies green with envy.

Most impressive is the headset worn by NASA Capcom Charles Duke to communicate with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin as they descended to the moon surface in the Apollo 11 Lunar Module. It was through this headset that Duke uttered the famous words, "Roger, Twank... Tranquility, we copy you on the ground. You got a bunch of guys about to turn blue. We're breathing again. Thanks a lot!".

Other really cool pieces include an early Apollo power control panel, the actual moon surface map used on the Apollo 17 Lunar Rover, various cheat sheets with mission instructions, and even Playboy's Miss August 1967's calendar picture, which was secretly stashed on board Apollo 12. Hey, it gets lonely up there in space.

With over 400 items available, it will be interesting to see what this stuff goes for. That guy with the NASA robotic hand we saw a while back, seems to be having a tough time finding a buyer.
