Pioneer's amazing Elite TVs return, but is it the real deal?

Until they were discontinued in 2009, Pioneer's Elite Kuro plasma TVs were the reference standard for picture quality. Now Sharp has struck a deal to bring back the Pioneer Elite TVs, but after reading the fine print, I suggest you wait before getting too excited.

Rather than bringing back the old Kuro plasma TVs with their inky deep black levels, the deal calls for a line of LCD sets manufactured by Sharp.

Back when they discontinued their sets, Pioneer said that the Kuro's "magic sauce" was mostly in the electronics, and could be applied to any TV technology, plasma or LCD. I guess we'll have to wait and see, but right now this looks more like a marketing move designed to give Pioneer a TV to sell.
