DARPA's Humvee-copter is a real Transformer

DARPA's transforming half Humvee and half helicopter finally has some concept renders to whet your appetite. We're ready when you are Autobot.

Generally speaking, not much has changed with DARPA's Transformer (also called TX) helicopter/Humvee vehicle. We now know that the TX can fly around 65 mph on ground and more than 150 mph in air. It's body is made of lightweight composite anti-blast armor with ballistic-proof windows and the vehicle is rigged out with machine guns and cannons for shooting terrorists.

The TX will cost about $203,000 when it's ready by 2015 — or about the same price as a Ferrari. Not too bad, considering a Ferrari can't fly.
