Hybrid drive ferry set to transport tourists in New York harbor
Sunday, December 5, 2010 - 11:15am
Tourists visiting New York will soon be able to go green while checking out the sights, thanks to this new four-way hybrid ferry that will transport visitors to The Statue Of Liberty starting next April.
The 600 passenger Hornblower Hybrid will use a combination of diesel, hydrogen, solar, and wind power, to generate 1,400 horsepower. Under most conditions, the hydrogen fuel cell will propel the ship, with the diesel engines used only for "additional energy needs," whatever that means.
This type of green thinking extends to the rest of the ship, which will use low power LED lighting, LEED certified carpeting, and low VOC paints.
