Portable garden is the perfect weapon for city-bound vegans

This may look like one of Japan's super odd vending machines, but in fact it's just the newest innovation in growing produce without sunlight.

The machine, called the Chef's Farm, was developed by Dentsu and can produce 60 heads of lettuce per day (or 20,000 heads per year) grown under 40 watt fluorescent lighting housed in a chrome housing that can be stored conveniently in any restaurant. The machines went on sale for about $90,000 in Japan this summer. When that long awaited zombie apocalypse hits, this is the portable garden that will keep you alive in your underground bunker.
