Here's some good news or bad news depending on how you look at it. The good news is that birth control pills could soon be replaced by a simple gel that works even if you rub it on your shoulders. The bad? Missing a day moisturizing could mean a lot more than rough skin.
The gel, being presented by researchers at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine meeting in Colorado this week, have already tested it on 18 women who used it for seven months. The gel works on a variety of areas on the body, including one's thighs, shoulders, legs or abdomen if applied daily, and doesn't have all the awful side effects associated with birth control pills. (That they know of, anyway — no one told me my bed could cause cancer until recently, after all!)
During the study, none of the women using the gel — who we imagine were sexually active or else this is all pointless — got pregnant, and the gel is even safe for women who are breastfeeding, which is another plus over the pill.
No word on when women can expect this miracle gel, but if products like this are already in the testing phase, hopefully the good news comes sooner than later.
