Twitter was hit by a fast-spreading virus, has since recovered
If you were on Twitter earlier this morning, you may have noticed that a slew of tweets looked like gibberish, some from some pretty serious sources, such as the White House Press Secretary. It was all thanks to a virus that was spread super easily, via just mousing over a link. Thankfully, it's been fixed.
The virus would automatically retweet itself when you moused over it on the Twitter.com homepage. It would also send you to a number of popup-laden porn sites, which was a nice touch. Fortunately, it didn't install anything on your computer, so it was more of an annoyance than a serious security issue. But it does go to show that when a small exploit is found on a service as large and as popular as Twitter, the repercussions can be pretty large.
