Turnstile uses human power to read your transit pass

With millions of people pushing their way through transit turnstiles every day, harnessing some of that energy to power the turnstile's electronic reader seems like a real head slapper.

Created by the VIVA Design Team at China's Guangdong Guangdong University, the Green Pass turnstile lets everyone contribute a little bit towards saving power, even if this tiny savings won't exactly save too many baby seals in the Arctic.

The Green Pass turnstile won first prize at Taiwan's 2010 Lite-On awards. Now if only they could explain the meaning of the slogan "Cheer for the low-carbon life folksily" seen in the second picture.
