Exploding at the molecular level makes flip phones cool again

Resolutely standing in the face of a smartphone future, KDDI continues to offers surprisingly sexy flip phones like the new PixCell via Prismoid artist edition prototype.

Designed by Japanese artist Kohei Nawa, the "pixcell" mobile phone is a concept he came up with meant to illustrate the use of light to transmit the "cell of an image," as if enlarged molecules could somehow burst forth from an object. Although not scheduled for commercial release, the phone nevertheless gives us some insight into the wild designs we can expect from our touchscreen phones in the coming years.
